ABOUT

Co-research is a collaborative approach in which researchers work with participants instead of conducting research on them. This method promotes shared ownership of the research process, integrating diverse perspectives to produce richer, more inclusive outcomes.

The steps involved typically include:

1. Identifying a Common Focus: Establishing a shared goal and/or research questions of interest among co-researchers.

2. Co-Designing the Research Process: Developing the methodology, roles and timelines collectively.

3. Data Collection: Gathering data collaboratively, with input or participation from co-researchers.

4. Analysis: Reviewing data as a group to ensure multiple viewpoints are considered.

5. Co-Creation of Outputs: Producing findings together in forms accessible to all stakeholders. This could involve a co-created policy brief or discussion workshop.

6. Sharing and Reflecting: Disseminating results and reflecting on the process to inform future co-research efforts and needed policy changes to account for the youth voice in ocean decisions.

Why Should You Get Involved?

By becoming a co-researcher, you will gain access to a network of like-minded young people, share in discussions and experiences across borders and learn how to conduct a research project. On a broader scale, you will be able to demonstrate how you and other young people should be engaged as important stakeholders in future ocean decisions.
